VERNON SPRINGER ON A CRUSADE FOR CHANGE

Sports Analyst and commentator and up to recently, a Coach at the Department of Sports in St.Kitts, Vernon Springer, now has a new assignment.

Coach Springer has been recently appointed as the Cricket Operations Officer for the Leeward Islands Cricket Board.

In a recent interview, Coach Springer indicated that the new look Leeward Islands Cricket Board is on a crusade for change and as part of the new vision, he has received his appointment as Cricket Operations Manager.

His task revolves around ensuring that Cricket tournaments are played within the Leeward Islands at all levels: under 13; under 15; under 17; under 19; women’s cricket and senior men’s cricket.

He was very active in the organization of the recently concluded under 15 tournament that was hosted in St.Kitts and Nevis and is also a key figure in the current hosting of the under 19 tournament which is underway in Antigua.

As part of his forward thinking endeavours, this year for the very first time, the Leeward Islands will be having a women’s hard ball tournament and all of the islands are already preparing teams for this historic event.

From that tournament, a Leewards Islands team will be selected to participate in the WICB regional women’s Cricket league.

As a matter of fact, the WICB has thrown its full support behind the endeavour, not only verbally but with a sizeable monetary contribution as well, indicated Springer.

Starting with the recently held under 15 tournament, Springer revealed that there are a total of 55 matches to be played within the aforementioned levels to a budgeted cost of $216,000.00 US.

All of the Leewards territories will be responsible for making a contribution to the cause and the Leewards Islands Cricket Board (LICA) will also engage in fund raisers to assist with the hosting of the various tournaments.

Another bit of good news shared by Coach Springer, is that the senior Leeward Islands tournament which has not been held for a few years, is definitely back this year and is set to commence towards the end of April. The matches will be hosted at venues in St.Kitts and Nevis.

‘Leewards cricket is back, said an enthusiastic Springer.
