Youth to Shape Message on Climate Change

Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 01, 2013 (SKNIS) The Water Services Department (WSD) in St. Kitts, is tapping the creativity of young people between the ages of 14-17 to tackle climate change through the use of social media.

In honour of the International Year of Water Cooperation, WSD is sponsoring a competition for the production of Public Service Announcements (PSAs) to promote awareness of water conservation and climate change.

Young people are invited to submit PSA scripts for review by a panel of judges who will select winning entries that will then be professionally produced as a radio and television PSAs. The winners will also act as on-screen and behind the scene talent for the productions, once selected

According to an official at WSD, the competition is meant to highlight the social media skills of young people; encourage learning, research and networking around water issues and especially conservation practices. It is also designed to help promote the underlying message of water conservation and ‘wise water’ usage and provide talented young people an opportunity to showcase their media skills through a professional production.

There is no limit to the number of entrees that any one individual can submit for either category.

Candidates are encouraged to do research related to water conservation and are urged to visit the WSD website for useful facts and information (www.water.gov.kn).

In addition to the privilege of having their PSA produced, successful candidates will receive a grand prize of EC$500.00

Entrees must be submitted as typed scripts by 3 pm Friday August 09, 2013.
