The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force advises that a zero-tolerance approach will be enforced in relation to smoking during all Carnival festivities.
In accordance with the Smoking (Designated Areas) Act, 2023, smoking in public places is strictly prohibited. This includes the use of cannabis, tobacco, and vaping products, unless smoking occurs within a properly licensed and clearly marked designated smoking area.
All Carnival events, venues, roadways, streets, and entertainment spaces are classified as public places. Unless an event organiser has received express approval from the Chief Medical Officer to establish a designated smoking area, smoking at these locations is unlawful.
Persons found in breach of the law will be issued a fixed-penalty ticket for $500. Failure to comply may result in further legal action.
Police officers will be deployed across all Carnival events to ensure strict enforcement. Promoters, vendors, and patrons are urged to comply with the law to help ensure a safe and enjoyable Carnival for all.
