Jessups Community Center Hosts Open Day Showcasing Nevis’ Cultural Heritage

Charlestown, Nevis — The Jessups Community Centre is welcoming residents and visitors this week for a special open day exhibition highlighting a collection of local artefacts and household items once commonly used in Nevisian homes.

The exhibition, which began on Monday, February 23, runs through Friday, February 27, and is open to the public daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Community members are encouraged to stop by and explore the displays, located upstairs in the building.

Organised with the support of Community Development Officer Ras Iroy Pinney, the initiative aims to preserve and promote the island’s cultural history while educating younger generations about traditional tools and everyday items from years past.

Since opening its doors in 2012, the Jessups Community Centre — managed by Leander Cornelius — has played an important role in community life across Nevis. The facility regularly hosts weddings, parties, baby showers, workshops, conventions, and also serves as an emergency shelter when needed.

Throughout the week, several schools have taken advantage of the exhibition, bringing students to learn firsthand about the history and practical uses of the artefacts on display.

Residents are invited to visit the centre and experience this unique glimpse into Nevis’ heritage.
