CDB Backs Efforts to Boost Regional Air Travel

The Caribbean Development Bank is supporting efforts to improve intra-regional travel after the failure of LIAT 1974. Although the bank has not officially commented on its talks with the government of Antigua and Barbuda regarding LIAT 2020, the acting President of CDB, Isaac Solomon, stated at a press conference in Barbados that air transport was “vital” for the region’s development.

Over the weekend, Antiguan Prime Minister Gaston Browne declared that negotiations between the CDB and the government on the sale of aircraft had been concluded and that all governments with shares in LIAT agreed to sell them to LIAT 2020.

Mr. Solomon stated that the CDB is willing to assist in resolving the air transportation limitations affecting the Caribbean.
