Ground-Breaking Ceremony Held for Creative Arts Centre

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A ground-breaking ceremony was held on Friday afternoon to mark the start of construction on the **Creative Arts Centre**, a major initiative aimed at strengthening the creative economy in St. Kitts and Nevis.

“It will be the home of our creatives and the largest hub of its kind in the Eastern Caribbean—a space for expression, innovation, and economic growth,” said Minister of Creative Economy, the Honourable **Samal Duggins**.

In a social media post on Friday evening, Minister Duggins reaffirmed his commitment to the creative sector.

“When I said I stand with creatives, it was never just words. When I committed to building a Creative Arts Centre, it was a promise to deliver,” he stated.

Minister Duggins, who is himself a creative, noted that the project holds deep personal significance.

“Long before entering public office, during my Island Xpression days, I understood the power of creativity to shape identity, build confidence, and create livelihoods. That understanding is what fuelled this commitment,” he said.

He emphasized that the ground-breaking ceremony represents more than the construction of a physical structure.

“We are breaking ground to create opportunities for jobs and to build a stronger creative economy for our people,” Minister Duggins explained.

The Minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister **Hon. Dr Terrance Drew** for his steadfast support in transforming the vision into reality, and to **Prime Developments** for partnering in the delivery of a facility expected to expand opportunities for creatives across the Federation significantly.

“This is a commitment kept. A commitment delivered. A future being built for our artists and our nation,” Minister Duggins concluded.
