INDEPENDENCE MATCH RAINED OUT

The much anticipated Independence Cricket match, which was scheduled for the Warner Park Cricket stadium, for the evening of Sunday 11th September, was rained out.

At one point, both the Nevis and St. Kitts teams had virtually completed their warmups under the watchful eyes of their respective coaches, Bernette Thompson and Percy Daniel.

The stumps were in place and a brief opening and presentation ceremony was about to commence…and then down came the rain.

The two honorees were Elquemedo Willet and Victor Eddy. Eddy who was present, was immaculately attired.

It rained incessantly for an extended period and eventually with the outfield soggy and the covers filled with water, the match was called off.

Director of Sports in St. Kitts, Anthony Wiltshire, apologized to the fans, ‘not for the rain, because we need the rain, but just for the fact that what I knew would have been a great match, could not be played,’ he said.

He however thanked main sponsors, the St. Kitts –Nevis Patriots management team and the St. Kitts-Nevis government.

He stopped short of saying whether the match has been postponed or cancelled but noted that the organizers will go back to the drawing boards and update the general public at short notice.
