Jessups Community Center Concludes Open Day on a High Note

Charlestown, St. Kitts and Nevis — The Jessups Community Centre wrapped up its Open Day celebrations on Friday, February 27, with a strong turnout and an engaging showcase of the island’s cultural heritage.

Residents, students, and visitors took the opportunity to tour the centre and explore exhibits featuring old-time artefacts and household items from the “good old days,” offering a glimpse into everyday life in earlier generations.

Community Development Officer Ras Iroy guided the experience, educating schoolchildren and younger attendees about the purpose and use of the items on display. His interactive presentations helped bring history to life, explaining how families once managed daily tasks long before modern conveniences.

Many young people reacted with amazement as they learned how their grandparents lived without cell phones, electricity, or internet access, gaining a new appreciation for the resourcefulness of past generations.

Also in attendance was Minister Jahnel Nisbett, who paid special tribute to Centre Manager Leander Cornelius for his dedicated service. Cornelius has served the Community Centre since its inception 14 years ago, playing a key role in its growth and continued impact within the community.

The Open Day not only celebrated local history but also strengthened intergenerational connections, reinforcing the importance of preserving Nevis’ cultural legacy for future generations.
