The Ministry of Education and Sports on Nevis honoured several young athletes during a ceremony held at the Malcolm Guishard Park on Thursday, April 9.
The proceedings were chaired by Assistant Secretary Jamir Claxton, who announced that the honoured athletes would have their overseas examination fees fully covered. He also revealed that they would receive academic support in subject areas where assistance is needed.
Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Troy Liburd, confirmed the initiative and further announced that CARIFTA bronze medalist Kymarni Newton would receive an additional reward in the form of a full scholarship covering all school-related expenses for the upcoming academic year.
Vice President of the St. Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletic Association, Dwayne Warner, also addressed the gathering, commending the athletes for their outstanding performances and noting that several recorded personal bests at the recent CARIFTA Games.
Also seated at the head table were Leeward Islands Under-15 captain Karese Bolo Farrell and CARIFTA medalist Kymarni Newton, both of whom expressed gratitude for the continued support and pledged to keep striving for excellence.
The afternoon concluded with a meet-and-greet reception and a photo opportunity with the honoured athletes.
