Prime Minister Drew Salutes Defence Force as New Combat Uniform Debuts

Basseterre, Saint Kitts (PMO) — Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Hon. Dr Terrance Drew, today, June 10, commended the men and women of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) as they officially unveiled their new combat uniform during a ceremonial march through the streets of Basseterre.

Addressing soldiers, senior officers and members of the public gathered for the occasion, Prime Minister Drew described the new uniform as more than a change in appearance, emphasising that it symbolises both the Government’s commitment to the Defence Force and the Force’s enduring commitment to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.

“Today you look sharp, sharper, and stronger, your uniform is designed for real work, the real work that you do on our land, in our waters, through whatever weather this region our nation faces,” the Prime Minister stated.

He added that while many may view the uniform simply as a new set of clothes, it carries a much deeper meaning for those who wear it and the nation they serve. “It is a commitment our Federation makes to you, and a commitment you make to your federation.”

Prime Minister Drew praised members of the Defence Force for embodying the values of discipline, sacrifice and patriotism, noting that they continue to place service to country above personal interest.

The Prime Minister further highlighted the many responsibilities carried out by the Defence Force, including protecting the nation’s borders, supporting disaster response efforts, assisting with national emergencies and contributing to public safety and security.

The Prime Minister concluded by encouraging citizens to honour and support the members of the Defence Force whose service helps safeguard the Federation’s peace, security and democratic traditions.
