Sportsman and Sports Woman 2020 Awarded In Nevis

A brief but very significant ceremony was held at the Best Buy Supermarket, in Charlestown, on Thursday, January 28, 2020.

On that day, the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year, 2020, received special awards.

It was an initiative of long-serving Sportscaster, Curtis Morton, who pointed out in his remarks that he thought that it would be nice for outstanding sportsmen and women on the island, to receive annual awards, as an incentive for others to follow suit and to excel in their chosen athletic fields.  He indicated that he at first thought about getting them some trophies, but thought that a food voucher would better serve the outstanding athletes, especially in these harsh economic times.

When he approached Best Buy Supermarket, Manager Mr. Rudy Duggins, immediately jumped on board and agreed to present the two chosen individuals, with a food voucher of $200.00 each.  Morton challenged the Ministry of Sports, to continue the initiative next year and to take it to another level.

The Best Buy representative who assisted Minister of Sports, Hon. Eric Evelyn, in presenting the awards, noted that the awardees can shop at any of the Best Buy Supermarkets in Nevis or St. Kitts and stated that the Best Buy Supermarket was happy to be a part of the initiative.

Director of Sports, Jamir Claxton, noted that it took hard work and dedication to excel at any given sport and heartily congratulated the two awardees.  He urged other sportsmen and women and even the youths who would witness the awards ceremony, to seek to tick all of the right boxes, so that they too can be champions at their sport of choice.

Minister Eric Evelyn, heartily congratulated Mr. Morton for the initiative and thanked Best Buy for the meaningful contribution.  He also congratulated the two awardees and made the grand announcement as follows:

Sportsman of the year 2020-Kezron Colin Archibald. Archibald was the only selectee from St. Kitts and Nevis, to represent St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the CPL 2020 tournament and is currently a member of the Leewards Hurricanes lineup.  The award was collected by one of Archibald’s aunts who expressed gratitude on behalf of the outstanding cricketer.
