Training workshops for civil servants at various levels

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, OCTOBER 16TH 2013 (CUOPM) – A series of training workshops for civil servants at various levels will be held over the next few weeks.

Responsible for local training said courses will be held new entrants in the civil service, junior clerks and senior clerks.

Newly-appointed Human Resource Assistant in the training and Development Department, Mrs. Olleen Knight-Warner said the workshop on Thursday 17th October is for Junior Clerks and will be held under the theme: Professionalism and ethics in the workplace.

“The broad objectives of the workshop are as follows: maintaining the proper attitude and perspective, the importance of dress and appearance, acting with more consideration and respect to each other, adhering to the code of conduct, identifying and understanding the ethical issues in the organization and identifying how ethics affect teamwork and productivity,” said Mrs. Knight-Warner who holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Human Resource strategy and Technology.

The workshop will be held at the University of the West Indies Open Campus from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon.

Senior Clerks in the Civil Service will attend a workshop in Effective Record Keeping on Thursday 31st October

.

Mrs. Knight-Warner said the objectives are aimed at identifying the function and purpose of record keeping, adhering to record-keeping requirements based on the regulatory and legislative environment in which the organization operates, and comply with internal policies on record-keeping and securing records to prevent unauthorized or accidental access, alteration, damage or removal.

This workshop will take place at the VAT Office Conference Room, Cayon Street from 9:30 am to 12:00 Noon.

The third training session is for new entrants in the Civil Service and will be held under the theme “Understanding the Civil Service.

“The workshop is geared primarily toward those ‘new’ Civil Servants, who entered the service during the period April, 2013 to present,” Knight-Warner said.

She said the workshop is aimed at helping employees to become more familiar with the Guidelines and Principles for Civil Servants.

“Gaining a common understanding of their roles and responsibilities as professional Civil Servants and Outlining the Compensation and Benefits Package that are available to Civil Servants,” said Knight-Warner.
