GINGERLAND, Nevis — The Rivers Foundation, led by Chief Executive Officer Ms Lauren Rivers, presented scholarships to students of Gingerland Secondary School on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, as part of its ongoing commitment to youth development and language education.

Ms Rivers, a past student and former teacher of the institution, explained that the foundation was established as part of her continued efforts to give back to her community and create greater opportunities for young people.

Founded in 2019, the Rivers Foundation focuses on expanding opportunities for local students through foreign language education and cultural exposure.

“Language skills open doors to careers,” Ms Rivers stated during the presentation ceremony.

The 2026 scholarship recipients are Anisa Henry and Adrian Douglas. Both students received backpacks filled with academic and language-learning resources, along with EC$1,500 in financial support and an additional EC$700 to assist with foreign language coaching and mentorship.

As part of the programme, the students will participate in monthly sessions over the course of one year, receiving language coaching, mentorship, and academic support, including homework assistance.

Special thanks were extended to Debra Lellouch, Michelle Givens of the United States, and Dr. Kester Williams-Parry for their continued support and contributions to the foundation’s initiatives.

In addition to the scholarship presentations, the ceremony also featured the inaugural presentation of the Award for Excellence in Global Language Instruction.

The prestigious Orvis Trophy was awarded to Mrs. Averil Tross, Head of the Modern Languages Department at Gingerland Secondary School, in recognition of her leadership, vision, and commitment to advancing language education at the institution.

The Rivers Foundation noted that the initiative reflects its ongoing mission to empower students through education, mentorship, and global learning opportunities.
