A Historic Evening for Nevis’ Film Industry

On Friday, 28th November 2025, we hosted the World Premiere of Pan Gyul at the Nevis Performing Arts Centre (NEPAC), and the event exceeded every expectation. With hundreds in attendance, the evening opened with an impressive medley by the Oualie Rhythmz Steel Orchestra, setting the perfect stage for a film that beautifully highlighted the culture, traditions, and natural beauty of Nevis.

In my remarks, I noted how meaningful this moment is for our island’s cultural and creative landscape. We were also honoured to hear from the Honourable Eric Evelyn, Deputy Premier and Minister of Culture in the Nevis Island Administration, who spoke to the importance of supporting homegrown talent and strengthening our film industry. We were delighted to welcome several distinguished guests, including Deputy Governor General Her Honour Mrs Hyleta Liburd, Honourable Jahnell Nisbett, Legal Advisor Mrs Helene Anne Lewis, and Honourable Alexis Jeffers.

Ms Jeffers shared that nineteen of the film’s twenty-one actors were local Nevisians—an accomplishment that is monumental in itself and a testament to the thriving talent on our island.

The audience was fully engaged throughout the screening and responded with enthusiastic applause as the credits rolled. A Q&A session with the cast and crew followed, along with a cocktail hour and red-carpet photos that allowed guests to connect, reflect, and celebrate together.
