Cricket : Charlestown Primary Maintains Unbeaten Run in Thrilling Victory over JLPS

The 2026 Runako Morton/TDC Primary Schools Cricket Tournament continued on Tuesday, 30 June, with two exciting matches, highlighted by the highly anticipated clash between previously unbeaten Charlestown Primary School (CPS) and Joycelyn Liburd Primary School (JLPS).

After winning the toss, CPS elected to bat and posted a competitive 99 for 2 from their allotted 15 overs.

For the first time in the tournament, star batsman Zakeem Bailey failed to register a half-century, falling for 40 after being dismissed by an excellent running catch. He received solid support from Delijah Jones, who played an entertaining innings of 37, while 20 extras helped boost the team’s total.

JLPS made a promising start to their run chase, racing to 20 without loss after just two overs. However, the match swung dramatically when Bailey took the ball from the Bath Hotel End and produced a devastating spell.

His first two deliveries brought wickets, and in his next over, his third and fourth balls claimed two more victims. Two batsmen were bowled, while two others were trapped leg before wicket, unable to cope with his pace.

Despite the collapse, JLPS fought hard and kept themselves in contention, aided by 40 extras conceded by CPS. However, they eventually fell short, being dismissed for 87, 12 runs shy of the target.

Jevon Matthew top-scored for JLPS with 13.

Bailey finished with outstanding figures of 4 for 19, while Ishan Bhim provided excellent support with 3 for 9 as CPS secured a hard-fought 12-run victory to maintain their unbeaten record.

In the day’s other match, Maude Cross Preparatory School (MCPS) recorded an impressive 32-run victory over Violet O. Jeffers Nicholls Primary School (VOJNPS).
