Cricket Willet To Celebrate 50th Anniversary Of Making Windies Team In 2023

March 9th, 2022, saw Elquemedo Willet celebrating the 49th year after breaking into the West Indies Cricket team and making his debut in a test match played in Barbados, versus the Australian team, from March 9th to 14th 1973.

In effect, Willet at age 19, created history by becoming the first Leeward Islander to get such a prestigious selection.

He opened the gates for many more illustrious sons to follow, including six other Nevisians, Deryck Parry, Keith Arthurton, Stuart Williams, Carl Tuckett, Runako Morton and Kieran Powell.

Add to that all of the knights of Antigua: Sir Vivian Richards, Sir Andy Roberts, Sir Richie Richardson and Sir Curtly Ambrose and many others from the Leewards.

Next year 2023 will make it fifty years since the historic event and it is understood that the Nevis Cricket Association is making plans to celebrate the occasion in a big way.

It is still the hope of many that the powers that be within the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, will seek to ensure that the local hero is knighted and also be conferred with the honours of NATIONAL HERO, while he is yet alive and in his right mind.
