Friday, the National Assembly passed the Saint Christopher and Nevis Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2026 — the 102nd Bill of this Administration — without a single vote against.
For 43 years, our law stopped one generation short. Our people went to Bermuda, to Brooklyn, to Leeds and Birmingham, to the Virgin Islands, to Toronto, et al. They had children. Their children had children. And the law of Saint Kitts and Nevis called those children foreigners.
Not anymore.
Three doors are now open to ADULTS born abroad on or after 19 September 1983:
🚪 Door 1 — Grandchildren. Your grandparent was born in Saint Kitts and Nevis, or was registered or naturalised here before Independence? You can apply.
🚪 Door 2 — Children of Independence citizens. Your parent became a citizen on 19 September 1983 — born here, naturalised here, or born abroad to Kittitian-Nevisian parents or grandparents? You can apply.
🚪 Door 3 — Children of the post-Independence generation. Your parent was born here after 1983, or was born abroad to a Kittitian-Nevisian parent, and then went overseas to study and build a life? For the first time, you can apply too.
Every application is proven by documents and cleared by a security review. This is citizenship by blood and ancestry.
📅 Regulations to be published: Friday 30 October
📘 Citizenship Handbook to be published: Monday 2 November
📝 Applications open: Monday 2 November — at the Ministry Secretariat on Liverpool Row, Basseterre and at every SKN High Commission, Embassy and Consulate. Online fee payment is coming.
Start now. Find your grandmother’s birth certificate. Find your mother’s. Have them certified.
Come home to own land without a licence. Come home to teach, to heal, to build, to farm, to invest. We are building a Sustainable Island State, and we cannot build it without you.
You were never the diaspora. You were always the Federation. Now the law says so.
Ensure that you review the law and the handbook carefully before making your application.
