BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, (CUOPM) – Crime in St. Kitts and Nevis continues to decline.
The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force reports a 70 percent drop in April this year compared to the same month last year.
“Despite our challenges, it is very clear that crime has trended down in the Federation and is reflected by the Federation’s statistics of – 69.5% in April 2014 compared to the same time 2013,” the Office of the Commissioner of Police said.
Police also report a 63 percent drop in crime on Nevis this year compared to April 2013.
According to the statistics, there was a 69.5 percent drop in major crimes in April 2014.
No murders were reported in April 2013 and 2014. Breakings were down 76.9 percent with 12 in 2014 compared to 52 in 2013; Larcenies were down 62 percent with 40 in 2013 compared to 15 in 2014; robberies were down, 20 percent with 5 in 2013 and 4 in 2014; Woundings (including firearm incidents); down, 66.7 percent with 12 in 2013 and 4 in 2014; malicious damage/arson, down 50 percent with 14 reported incidents in 2013 and 7 in 2014; firearms and drugs, down 80 percent with 31 reported incidents in 2013 and just 6 in 2014.
The Police Force also reports Offences Against the Person were down, 68 percent with 16 in 2013 and 5 in 2014; possession of controlled drugs dropped 73 percent with 19 offences in 2013 and 5 in 2014; possession with intent to supply dropped 89 percent with 9 offences in 2013 and 1 in 2014.
