Basseterre, St Kitts, June 19, 2019 – The shooting of two persons attached to Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) in St Kitts has reportedly triggered a call from the Barbados-based Embassy of the United States, a reliable source here said Wednesday night.
The two, a male and a female, suffered gunshot wounds during an armed robbery not far from the RUSVM Campus on Tuesday night, police confirmed on Wednesday.
A police statement did not give the nationalities or ages of the victims and whether they are students or staff. There has been no comment from RUSVM.
“Investigations so far have revealed that approximately 11:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Jason Ghuman of Mattingley and Hannah Adamson of West Farm were driving along the Island Main Road from Ross University to West Farm in P 1897 driven by Ghuman. When they got to the residence of Adamson, they were approached by an armed assailant who demanded money. Ghuman exited the vehicle and the assailant opened fire and shot Ghuman in his right instep while Adamson was grazed by a bullet to the back of her head. The assailant then fled the scene in Ghuman’s vehicle,” the police statement said.
Adamson and Ghuman were taken to the JN France General Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Adamson was treated and discharged while Ghuman remains warded in a stable condition, police said.
The scene was processed by members of the Crime Scene Unit and items of evidential value were taken into police custody.
“Investigations into the matter are ongoing. Persons with information regarding this incident are urged to contact the Violent Crimes Unit by dialing 467-1887 or 467-1888, 662-3468 or by calling the crime hotline at 707,” the police said.
