News has been received of the passing of Austin JAL Browne, also known as CALA, of Brown Hill, Nevis.
Browne represented the Nevis cricket team as a determined and elegant opening batsman, who was fearless in his stroke play.
He would have had many run-ins with the fast bowlers from Antigua and he never retreated an inch.
His policy was ‘giving tit for tat,’ as when they bounced at him, he was never afraid to hook and cut with vigour.
Browne succumbed after an extended illness. He was hospitalized at first and then sent home.
The cricketing fraternity on Nevis extends its sincerest condolences to the family of the late Nevisian stalwart.
