Objective: To safeguard the natural geothermal flow, temperature stability, and ecological integrity of the historic Bath Hot Springs in Nevis from the negative impacts of nearby construction activities.
Scope: This policy applies to all proposed construction, land development, excavation, and infrastructural activities within a designated protective buffer zone surrounding the Bath Hot Springs and its associated geothermal features.
Guidelines:
1. Protective Buffer Zone:
A minimum 100-meter no-construction buffer zone is to be enforced around the primary spring outlets and associated geothermal pools.
Within this zone, only approved heritage preservation works, light landscaping, and maintenance are permitted.
2. Geotechnical and Hydrogeological Assessments:
All developments within 300 meters of the Bath Hot Springs must submit a Geothermal Impact Assessment (GIA), including:
Hydrogeological mapping
Spring flow and temperature impact studies
Soil stability assessments
3. Restrictions on Deep Excavation and Piling:
Deep excavation, pile driving, or underground utility installation within 300 meters is prohibited unless it can be proven that it will not alter geothermal pathways.
