Basseterre, St. Kitts — September 15 & 18, 2025: The Basseterre Magistrate Court, presided over by His Honour Reynold Benjamin, heard several traffic-related matters last week. The following convictions and sentences were handed down:
Licensing Authority vs. Javid Aaron Wilkinson (Trafalgar Village)
The defendant, unrepresented by counsel, was convicted of multiple offences committed on January 29, 2025, and sentenced as follows:
Driving Without Insurance – Guilty. Sentenced to two (2) months imprisonment and disqualified from holding a driver’s licence for six (6) months.
Driving Without Due Care and Attention – Guilty. Fined $750, payable by January 19, 2026, or 30 days imprisonment in default.
Driving Without a Valid/Unexpired Driver’s Licence – Guilty. Fined $500, payable by January 19, 2026, or 14 days imprisonment.
Driving an Unregistered Vehicle – Guilty. Fined $350, payable by January 19, 2026, or 14 days imprisonment.
Driving an Unlicensed Vehicle – Guilty. Fined $350, payable by January 19, 2026, or 14 days imprisonment.
Failing to Immediately Stop – Guilty. Convicted and cautioned.
Licensing Authority vs. Jovan Hodge (Camps)
The defendant, unrepresented by counsel, pleaded guilty and was convicted as follows:
Driving Without Insurance – Fined $1,000 forthwith, or two (2) months imprisonment in default.
Driving Without a Licence – Fined $500 forthwith, or two (2) months imprisonment in default.
Failing to Comply with Traffic Sign – Convicted and cautioned.
Passenger Not Wearing a Seatbelt – Convicted and cautioned.
Driving Without a Seatbelt – Fined $400, or two (2) months imprisonment in default.
