Prime Minister Drew: Only CARICOM Nationals (Except Haiti) to Be Accepted; No Violent or Sexual Offenders

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Honourable Dr Terrance M. Drew, informed the nation on Thursday that the twin-island Federation has reached an agreement with the Government of the United States to accept deportees who are nationals of CARICOM member states, except Haiti.

Appearing on the inaugural edition of The Round Table*, Prime Minister Drew assured the public that the agreement includes strict safeguards, noting that no violent offenders or individuals convicted of sexual crimes will be accepted under the Memorandum of Understanding.

In his statement, the Prime Minister emphasised that the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis remains firmly committed to protecting national security while maintaining responsible regional and international partnerships.

During an engagement with members of the press on Freedom 106.5 FM, which was carried across other radio stations and media platforms, Prime Minister Drew explained that the agreement forms part of ongoing diplomatic discussions between Washington, D.C., and Basseterre. He further underscored that his St. Kitts–Nevis Labour Party administration has taken a proactive and strategic approach in its negotiations.
