Fourteen-year-old Abhijith Srinivasan delivered a creditable performance at the 2026 ILCA North American Championships in San Pedro, Los Angeles, becoming the first sailor to represent St. Kitts and Nevis at the prestigious regatta.
Hosted by the Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club, the venue for the sailing events at the 2028 Olympic Games, the championship concluded after competitors faced a wide range of challenging wind and sea conditions.
Competing in the highly competitive 59-boat ILCA 4 fleet, Srinivasan finished 43rd overall. Despite the demanding conditions, he produced a strong performance, including a top-30 finish in one of the races.
“As my first international regatta, it was a really fun experience,” said Srinivasan. “I am proud of my performance and gained valuable knowledge that will help me continue to improve as a sailor.”
Srinivasan expressed his gratitude to the St. Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association (SKNSA), his coaches, and the Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Centre (NASC) for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout his preparation and competition.
Following this landmark debut, Srinivasan will now turn his attention to the 2026 ILCA 4 Youth World Championships in Aarhus, Denmark, from 1–9 August. He will continue his preparations in European waters before once again representing St. Kitts and Nevis on the international stage.
