The Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis on Wednesday (September 10) convened the Final Validation Session for the Coastal Adaptation and Resilience Initiative – St. Kitts and Nevis (CARI-SKN), marking an important step toward the project’s submission to the Adaptation Fund.
The session, held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort, was spearheaded by the Climate Action Unit within the Ministry of Environment, Climate Action and Constituency Empowerment, in collaboration with the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC).
CARI-SKN is a five-year climate change initiative valued at approximately US$9.99 million in grant funding, designed to strengthen Saint Kitts and Nevis’ capacity to respond to the growing impacts of climate change, particularly along its vulnerable coastal areas.
The project will focus on establishing a robust coastal zone management framework while supporting the implementation of physical coastal defences and other adaptation measures across the twin-island Federation.
The final validation session provided stakeholders with an opportunity to conduct a final review of the project’s proposed components, interventions and objectives, ensuring that the submission reflects the Federation’s coastal adaptation priorities and development needs ahead of its consideration by the Adaptation Fund.
CARI-SKN represents a significant investment in protecting our coastlines, strengthening climate resilience and safeguarding communities, infrastructure and livelihoods for generations to come.
