BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS — On September 9, 2026, the High Court of St. Kitts and Nevis sentenced Dr Vance Gilbert to twelve years and six months in prison following his conviction on sexual offence charges.
Presiding Judge His Lordship Justice Patrick Thompson Jr. handed down the sentence for crimes committed between March 1 and March 31, 2020. Dr Gilbert was convicted on May 27, 2026, after a trial that concluded earlier that month.
The court imposed the following custodial terms:
Rape: Twelve (12) years and six (6) months’ imprisonment
Indecent Assault: Five (5) years’ imprisonment
Both sentences will run concurrently, resulting in an effective total sentence of twelve years and six months at His Majesty’s Prison.
Additionally, the Court ordered Dr Gilbert to pay XCD $9,000 in compensation to the victim. The payments are structured in two equal instalments of XCD $4,500, due by December 31, 2026, and December 31, 2027, respectively. Failure to make either payment will incur an additional six-month prison sentence to be served consecutively.
