Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis — October 6, 2026 — In recognition of World Food Day 2026, a special fishing excursion brought together members of the St. Kitts & Nevis Association of Persons with Disabilities (SKNAPD) for a memorable day on the water, highlighting the importance of inclusion, recreation, and the vital role of the marine environment in sustaining communities.
Held under the 2026 World Food Day theme, “Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow,” the fishing trip provided participants with an opportunity to experience the marine environment firsthand, participate in recreational fishing, and gain a deeper appreciation for the waters that contribute to the Federation’s livelihoods, food systems, culture, and way of life.
The initiative also underscored the importance of ensuring that persons with disabilities have meaningful opportunities to participate in community activities and connect with the natural resources that form an essential part of life in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Beyond the recreational experience, the outing served as an opportunity to encourage greater awareness of the relationship between healthy marine ecosystems, sustainable fishing practices, food security, and the future well-being of communities.
For the participants, the day was about more than fishing. It was about connection, inclusion, exploration, and creating shared experiences that celebrate the abilities and contributions of persons with disabilities.
As St. Kitts and Nevis joins countries around the world in observing World Food Day 2026, the fishing excursion offers a reminder that building sustainable and resilient food systems requires everyone to have a place at the table — and, in this case, a place on the water.
The organizers extend appreciation to the members of the St. Kitts & Nevis Association of Persons with Disabilities for their participation and enthusiasm in making the outing a meaningful part of this year’s World Food Day observances.
