Basseterre, St. Kitts — Tiquanny Williams scored twice as the St. Kitts and Nevis national team, the Sugar Boyz, battled to a 2-2 draw against Cuba in their latest Concacaf Nations League League B, Group C encounter.
Williams opened the scoring in the 16th minute, giving the Sugar Boyz an early advantage. Cuba responded nine minutes later, with Y. Pérez finding the back of the net in the 25th minute to level the match.
The Sugar Boyz regained the lead in the 68th minute when Williams calmly converted from the penalty spot to score his second goal.
Cuba, however, refused to surrender and secured a late equaliser through D. Díaz in the dying moments of the contest. The goal, which came from a corner kick, denied the Sugar Boyz all three points.
The result comes just days after another thrilling encounter between the two sides, with St. Kitts and Nevis fighting back from a 3-1 deficit to earn a dramatic 3-3 draw on Friday at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
In that six-goal thriller, Kyle Kelly opened the scoring for the Sugar Boyz in the 26th minute with a long-range strike. Cuba responded through Yunior Pérez in the 29th minute and Diego Catasús in the 38th minute, before Pérez added his second goal in the 51st minute.
The Sugar Boyz mounted a determined comeback, with Tyreece Simpson reducing the deficit in the 83rd minute before Williams completed the comeback with an 88th-minute equalizer.
Across the two back-to-back encounters, the Sugar Boyz demonstrated remarkable resilience and fighting spirit, scoring five goals against Cuba and securing two draws.
Williams’ two-goal performance in the latest encounter further highlights his impressive form during the Nations League campaign and his growing importance to the national team’s attack.
The Sugar Boyz will now turn their attention to the next stage of their Concacaf Nations League campaign in November as they continue their pursuit of success in League B, Group C.
