Ambassador-designate of the Kingdom of Sweden Pays Courtesy call on Prime Minister Drew

Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevi (Press Secretary, PMO): His Excellency Anders Bengtcén, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden accredited to the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, paid a courtesy call on the Honourable Dr Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis on Thursday 20th April 2023.

Also present at the meeting was Dr Joy Kathleen Allen Ferdinand, Honorary Consul of Sweden and Ms Jazzée Connor, Foreign Service Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the discussions, several matters of common interest were discussed including the war in Ukraine, renewable energy, the Citizenship by Investment Programme, and the upcoming European Union-Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (EUCELAC) summit to be held in Brussels in July of this year.

Prime Minister Dr Drew commended Dr Joy Kathleen Allen Ferdinand, Honorary Consul of Sweden on her accomplishments in this capacity and expressed his desire for continued relations with Sweden.

“Saint Kitts and Nevis has enjoyed longstanding diplomatic relations with Sweden for several years. This is evidenced by Dr. Joy Kathleen Allen Ferdinand’s role as Honorary Consul of Sweden. We look forward to continuing building on the strengths of those good relations”, said the Honourable Dr Terrance Drew.
Ambassador Bengtcén noted the strong connection between Saint Kitts and Nevis and Sweden, particularly in the multilateral sphere.

Sweden has made a substantial contribution to the fight against climate change within the region.

With Sweden being a leader in innovation, technology, communication, and renewable energy, Saint Kitts and Nevis will continue to secure synergies to boost their own efforts at sustainable development.

Ambassador-designate Bengtcén presented his credentials to Her Excellency Dame Marcella Liburd, G.C.M.G., JP, Governor General of Saint Kitts and Nevis, on Wednesday, 19th April 2023. He also paid a courtesy call on the Right Honourable Dr Denzil Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
