LONDON, England (CMC):
Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield both played superb knocks as Australia Women demolished England Women by seven wickets to be crowned ICC Women’s T20 champions for a record seventh time yesterday.
After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Australia did well to limit the home side to 150 for four in their 20 overs at Lord’s, despite a fighting, unbeaten half-century by captain Nat Sciver-Brunt.
Sciver-Brunt scored 58 not out off 53 balls with five fours, and Freya Kemp blasted an unbeaten 44 off 28 balls with four fours and one six, to help England recover from 70 for four in the 11th over.
However, Mooney, who was named Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament, then hit 64 off 49 balls, inclusive of 10 fours, to lead Australia to 153 for three in 17.1 overs.
She was well supported by Litchfield, who scored 48 off 35 balls, with the pair sharing a 100-run partnership in 11 overs following the early loss of Georgia Voll for nine.
