Annual free Prostate screening Drive at “OCCASSIONS” on January 11, 2014

Urology Associates, under the leadership of Dr. Dwayne Thwaites is pleased to announce the hosting of its 6th annual free Prostate screening Drive at “OCCASSIONS” on January 11, 2014.

Under our motto “EARLY DECTION SAVES LIVES”, our goal is to ensure that the male populace in the country is provided with adequate information and opportunities to be able to detect abnormalities in the prostate as early as possible, thus improving their chances of being treated effectively.

The attendance at this drive has increased tremendously over the years with an attendance rate of 368 persons in 2013 of which 39% being first time attendees. There was a 15.21% detection rate with abnormal findings and a cancer detection rate of 2.98%

In 2013, the predominate age group was 50 – 59 with an attendance rate of 39.13% This was followed by the 40 – 49 age group with an attendance of 30.98%. We are targeting males between the ages of 40 – 75 as prostate cancer seems to be most prevalent within this age group. However, males outside this category especially those with a family history of Prostate cancer will also be given the chance to be screened once they are present.

In 2014, we will be ably assisted by Dr. Brian Cohen, who will be joining us for the 5th time. Dr. Cohen has been practicing at Victoria Urological Associates in North Carolina since June 2008. He is a trained urologist with specialized training in Female Urology, Incontinence, Neurourology, and Voiding Dysfunction.
Returning for the 2nd time will be Dr. Caruso. Dr. Caruso is a Board Certified Adult Urologist at the Jupiter Medical Center in Florida. He has completed subspecialty training in female urology, pelvic floor reconstruction and complex voiding dysfunction for both men and women. Jupiter Medical Center recently named Dr. Caruso as the “Physician of the Year” for 2011.
