Annual Kite Flying Contest Set For Good Friday

Good Friday –Friday 19th April, is the day set for the annual kite flying competition, hosted by the St. Johns Community Improvement Club (SJCIC).
The much looked forward to event, will be held at its usual home, at the FLATS in Cole Hill.
Long serving president of the club, Mr. Alsted Pemberton, on Tuesday noted that this year’s event, will be held in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism which also has an interest in the upkeep of the local cultural heritage, hence an interest in the longevity of the sport of kite flying.
They will also be making significant contributions to the day’s event.
Registration of kites will be completed that very day between 12 noon and 1 pm and prizes will be given for the following categories:
Biggest kite
Best flying kite
Best book leaf kite
Most creative kite
Best designed kite
There will also be plenty of local food and drink on sale, complete with the traditional Easter goodies such as conkie; cassava bread and the like.
Vendors will only pay $50.00
Added attractions will include, domino competitions and cricket matches, with DJ Wenty and other DJ’s providing musical entertainment.
Pemberton is inviting all and sundry to the family experience.
