ANTIGUA & BARBUDA BEATS NEVIS AT HOME

By:Curtis Morton

A much anticipated match in the ongoing Leeward islands 50 overs competition, was played between Antigua & Barbuda and Nevis on Thursday 28th April, at the ET Willett Park.

An impressive crowd was on hand.

The visitors won the toss and batted first and shocked the home team when Jermaine Otto and Kadeem Phillip, teamed up in an exhilarating partnership, with both men hitting the ball to all parts of the Park in an unbridled display of power hitting.
All of the bowlers felt the weight of their bats in the process.

However, the tide changed somewhat when Akito Willet was belatedly introduced into the attack by Skipper Kieran Powell. He dismissed both batsmen and went on to remove the hard hitting Rahkeem Cornwall cheaply and ended with a six wicket haul.
Antigua & Barbuda getting to a comfortable 279 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs.
When Nevis responded, Kieran Powell thrilled the impressive home crowd with some scintillating shots all around the Park, hitting the Antiguan pacers at will.

His brief cameo came to an end when he flashed one time too many at a short ball from Alzarri Joseph and was caught behind.
Thereafter, Nevis struggled. The consistent Tonito Willet made yet another half a ton

but the score was just too much out of reach for the remaining batsmen, as the Antigua & Barbuda bowlers, shared the spoils.
Summarized scores; Antigua & Barbuda 279 for 8 in 50 overs: Jermaine Otto 118; Kadeem Phillip 81; Hayden Walsh Jr 29*
Akito Willet 6 for 61.

Nevis 183 all out in 45.3 overs: Tonito Willet 60; Kieran Powell 30; Wasim Mintos 26
