ARBOR MONTH 2013

The Nevis Historical and Conservation Society (NHCS) will be celebrating Arbor (Tree) Month in November. Arbor Month is celebrated at different times of the year in countries around the world.

The purpose of the month is to educate individuals and communities about the importance of trees to the health, preservation and beauty of our natural environment and landscape.

During the month, individuals and organizations (schools, churches and community groups) are encouraged to plant trees, take care of trees and to learn more about the value of trees to our lives.

The NHCS will be assisting schools with tree planting projects and have selected the Poinciana (flamboyant) tree and the lignum vitae tree as the two species to be donated to schools. Radio discussions are planned on the topic. We urge the support of the general public for this special month in which we celebrate the beauty of our tropical trees.
