Arthur France MBE Presents Awards to Local Folklorists

Charlestown-Nevis-On Tuesday 12th December, a brief but significant ceremony was held at the Michael Sutton auditorium, at NEPAC.

The ceremony, which was chaired by Miss Sheilagh James, saw presentations of trophies to the String band and masquerade groups, by Mr. Arthur France, MBE, who was one of the main individuals behind the creation of the now world famous, Leeds carnival in England.

He was effectively paying tribute to the 41 strong Nevisian delegation, which attended the 2017 Leeds carnival, now in its 50th year. A trip which was organized in the main, through the hard work and sacrifice of Miss Sheilagh James and fully supported by Premier Vance Amory and the Nevis Island Administration.

Mr. France stated that the Nevisian delegation helped to make the 2017 edition of the Leeds carnival, the huge success it was and said that he was really proud of them.

He also distributed tokens of appreciation to the other members of the delegation present.
