Athletics: Education and Sports Departments Host Press Conference Ahead of BON High Schools’ Championship

On Tuesday, March 3, the Departments of Sports and Education hosted a press briefing ahead of the 2026 Nevis High Schools Championship, sponsored by The Bank of Nevis Limited.

Director of Sports, Aljay Newton, provided an overview of the upcoming meet and encouraged the public to come out in full support of the event and the island’s talented student-athletes.

Chief Executive Officer of The Bank of Nevis Limited, Mr Liburd, urged the athletes present to demonstrate good character and true sportsmanship, reminding them to show respect to their peers and officials at all times. During the briefing, he also presented a cheque of XCD $25,000.00 to the Ministry of Education, Sports and related departments, noting that the contribution was not a one-time sponsorship but a continuation of the Bank’s longstanding investment in youth development.

Principal Assistant Secretary Jamir Claxton accepted the cheque on behalf of the Ministry and expressed sincere gratitude to the meet’s title sponsor, The Bank of Nevis Ltd., for its continued partnership and commitment to youth development in Nevis.

This year’s championship will take place this weekend, March 7 and 8, at the Nevis Athletics Stadium under the patronage of Stephanie Nisbett and Ishan Todman, both past athletes of Charlestown Secondary School.

At the conclusion of the briefing, athlete representatives from both schools participated in an interview session with the chair. The students shared insights into their preparations and expectations for the meet and took the opportunity to invite the public to come out and support the championship.
