Attempts at Last Minute Boundaries Change is a move to deny the peoples democracy and will be resisted

“This attempt to silence the people and deny them their democracy will lead to instability in St.Kitts-Nevis.”

Basseterre, St.Kitts (TUCOM-Jan 10th ):-The move by the illegitimate Douglas regime to change boundaries at this late hour has received the requisite rebuke and condemnation by Team Unity’s Leader. The five year anniversary of the Douglas regime ends on January 25. Speaking to a massive public meeting in East Basseterre in Thursday Night Dr. Harris told listeners that it was a self serving and desperate act for any Government to seek to change electoral boundaries on the eve of general elections.
Dr. Harris said that Team Unity would resist any effort to change the rules of the game so late after the campaign has started.
For a Government that does not have the support of the majority of elected representatives to seek to gerrymander the boundaries, is highly obnoxious and it should be resisted.
Dr. Harris called on our civil society to be strong and send a clear message to Dr. Douglas that his term is ended. He has no legitimacy to be changing boundaries. The Opposition is prepared to go to the streets and do all in its power to prevent an illegitimate government from changing boundaries. “If we need to have thousands on the street to prevent the undermining of democracy we will” Dr. Harris warned.
Polls have shown that Dr. Douglas is losing the general elections. Dr. Douglas does not command the support of the majority of Members of Parliament. His authority to act as Prime Minister is invalidated according to Justice Ramdhani in a High Court Judgment delivered on 12 February 2014.
Citizens at home and abroad have condemned Douglas’ failure to table the Motion of No Confidence and then in the face of that to be seeking to prolong his dictatorial rule by gerrymandering the electoral boundaries.
