The Bath United under 17 Football team, returned home to a warm reception, after participating in an under 17 tournament in St. Maarten, last weekend.
It was the second annual WILFUL SKILLFUL Sports Club, regional under 17 Football tournament.
Coach Alex Claxton reported that they drew the first game versus the defending champions, with a score line of nil-all, then won the second game with a score line of 3-2.
That got the team into the semifinals, where they were unfortunately defeated by the St. Kitts Trinity Strikers’ team, with a score line of 3 -0.
He pointed out that his team started nervously in the first half, when all three goals were scored, but came back to dominate the second half, even though they did not manage to score, but kept the score line to 3-0.
They however, qualified for the third place encounter, which ended in a no result, ‘due to circumstances beyond their control’ and the team was awarded the third place trophy, as a result.
The manager of the team also took time out to thank the Nevis Island Administration and the other sponsors, who helped to make the trip possible and the parents and supporters of the team.
Also on hand to welcome the team, was Deputy Director at the Sports Department, Mr. Brian Dowe, who congratulated the team for their achievements during the tournament.
Minister of Sports, Hon. Eric Evelyn, also shared his words of commendation for the team, noting that when he heard that there was a financial dilemma in getting the team to St. Maarten, his Ministry quickly stepped in to assist.
He pledged his continued support to such endeavours by the young people and sporting organizations.
He also congratulated the tournament’s top goal keeper, Vibert Stevens.
