Beefy’s Bash Features Leading Lights from the Worlds of Cricket and Entertainment

Monday 11th August 2014 – Basseterre, St. Kitts. Featuring an all-star line-up, the worlds of cricket and entertainment will come together for a good cause in the form of Beefy’s Bash charity cricket match.

Hosted by English cricketing giant turned commentator, Sir Ian “Beefy” Botham in tandem with the Limacol Caribbean Premier League, the T20 cricket match bowls off at 7pm on Tuesday 12th August at the Warner Park stadium in St. Kitts and the proceeds will go to Special Olympics St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Kitts and Nevis Association of Persons with Disabilities and the Creative Youth Academy.

With the opening ball of the match being bowled by the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Denzil Douglas, the teams will be captained by Brian Lara and Piers Morgan.

Suiting up for Botham’s team are the likes of Marcus Mumford (frontman for folk rock band Mumford and Sons), Darren Gough, Matt Maynard, Mickey Arthur and Danny Morrison while West Indies batting legend, Brian Lara’s team features cricketing greats like Courtney Walsh, Sir Curtly Ambrose, Desmond Haynes, Gordon Greenidge, Roger Harper, Ian Bishop and Graeme Swann.

Botham is delighted to be in St. Kitts and Nevis to combine his twin passions of cricket and giving back, commenting; “We’ve got some fantastic talents taking the field on Tuesday night and I would like to thank them for getting involved for a great cause. Nothing beats cricket in the Caribbean and the party cricket vibes are guaranteed to keep the runs and the rums flowing.”

Commenting on the prospect of facing down the legendary West Indies bowling attack, Piers Morgan (fresh from a bruising encounter with Brett Lee in a charity match in the UK), said; “These giants of cricket are some of my all-time sporting heroes so it’s a dream come true to be taking the pitch with them – even if it does result in some damaged egos and limbs on my part.”
