Charlestown Secondary School came alive with energy and excitement on Friday, January 16, as the institution staged its annual road relay championships, drawing strong crowd support and spirited competition among the houses.
Athletes from the various age categories faced a challenging but well-supported course. Each race began at the school’s main gate, continued around the block, passed through the ET Willet Park, returned onto the main road, and finished back at the main gate, where athletes handed over the baton to their teammates. The event showcased not only speed and endurance, but also teamwork and discipline.
Competition was fierce across all divisions. In the Under-14 female category, Blue House emerged victorious, followed by Red House in second and Green House in third. Red House dominated the Under-14 male division, with Blue House finishing second.
Red House continued its strong showing in the Under-16 categories, winning both the female and male divisions. Blue House secured second place in both races, while Green House finished third in each.
In the 16-plus female division, Red House again took top honours, with Green House placing second and Blue House third. The Under-18 male race saw Green House claim first place, followed by Blue House and Red House. Red House closed the day with another win in the Under-20 male category, with Blue House finishing second.
Following the completion of the cross-country and road relay events, Blue House leads the overall standings with 269 points. Green House sits close behind in second place with 232 points, while Red House is just two points adrift in third with 230.
The successful staging of the road relays highlighted the depth of athletic talent at Charlestown Secondary School and set the tone for an exciting remainder of the school’s athletics season.
