Basseterre, St. Kitts – The St. Kitts and Nevis Bureau of Standards (SKNBS) is aware of the voluntary recalls of Bumble Bee and Chicken of the Sea Tuna Products in the United States of America (USA) on March 16 and 17, respectively.
Bumble Bee Foods, LLC is voluntarily recalling 31,579 cases of 5oz Bumble Bee Chunk Light Tuna in Water, 5oz Bumble Bee Chunk Light Tuna in Oil and 4 pack of 5oz Bumble Bee Chunk Light Tuna in Water due to process deviations that occurred in a co-pack facility not owned or operated by Bumble Bee. Additionally, Tri-Union Seafoods LLC is voluntarily recalling 2,745 cases of Chicken of the Sea brand 5oz canned Chunk Light Tuna in Oil and 5oz canned Chunk Light Tuna in Water because the product may have been undercooked due to an equipment malfunction, which was uncovered during a routine inspection.
The recalled products have not been distributed to St. Kitts and Nevis by any local distributors. However, local individual importers and travelers to the USA should be aware and take the necessary precautions to avoid purchasing or consuming these recalled products.
The St. Kitts and Nevis Bureau of Standards, in collaboration with the Department of Consumer Affairs and the Ministry of Health, is actively monitoring this alert in the USA and will keep the public duly informed.
