Court says that appointment of Jason Hamilton as Attorney General and Senator is null and void

(BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS) – High Court Judge, Justice John Benjamin Q.C. has ruled that the appointment of Jason Hamilton as the Attorney General of St Christopher and Nevis, and his appointment as a senator in the National Assembly is null and void. The ruling was made today, Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the Sir Lee Moore Judicial Complex.

The case was brought before the High Court in St. Kitts by the Leader of the opposition, Shawn Richards and former Deputy Leader of the St. Kitts Nevis Labor Party. The legal challenge started on the matter started on January 29, 2013.

His Lordship was of the view that in order for Hamilton to have been appointed, he (Hamilton) would have had to have been already a Member of Parliament.

No award of cost was made in the matter
