CPS Takes Family Feud 2018

Charlestown-Nevis- The 2018 edition of the exciting FAMILY FEUD hosted and coordinated by the Education Department and the School Libraries took place at NEPAC on the evening of Saturday 26th May.

It was held under the theme: ‘Investing in Quality Education: Empowering the Nation.’

Opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Shefton Liburd, Education Officer and Ms. Julitta Parris of the School Library services.

Preliminary items also included prayer and the singing of the national anthem of St. Kits and Nevis.

Also delivering brief remarks, was Mr. Kevin Barrett, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education.

In her chairing of the proceedings, Education officer, Miss Londa Browne introduced the participating schools and families as follows:

Charlestown Secondary School -CSS-the Saxena family-Shilpika and Tammay

St. Thomas’ Primary School-STPS-The Rodriguez family-Herman and Nangilo

Joycelyn Liburd Primary School-JLPS-The Challenger family-Charming and Keniyo

Montessori Academy-MA- the Gatewood-Skeete family-Anthony and Josiah

Charlestown Primary School-CPS-The France/Budgeon family-Mauricia and Rudelicia

St. James’ Primary School-SJPS-The Daniel-Gajor family-Antonette and Alyssa

Ivor Walters Primary School-IWPS-The Hanley family-Colette and N’Kosanae

Maude Cross Preparatory School-MCPS-The Kalidas family-Deodat and Anjalina

(Absent, as Anjalina was hospitalized at the time)

Gingerland Secondary School-GSS-the Leitch family-Grace and Haphaney

Elizabeth Pemberton Primary School-EPPS-The Lawrence/Powell family-Shoya and Romigio Jr.

The participants were quizzed in the following categories:

1st category-Fiction

2nd category-Bible stories

3rd category Nevisian History

4th category-Science

5th category-Nursery rhymes and riddles

Tie breaker-Nevisian history

Sudden death-all categories

The stated objectives of the competition are:

  1. Encourage and strengthen family ties
  2. Cultivate a reading environment in the home
  3. Develop a love and appreciation for reading and books
  4. Encourage collaboration between school, home and community
  5. Encourage families to spend more quality time together
  6. Raise funds for the school libraries so that they can continue to support learning in our schools.

 

The main sponsor of the event was Mr. Eustace Warner, Kittitian born Business man of Warner’s One Stop.

All of the participants received a back pack filled with school supplies complements of the Nevis Association of South Florida; a trophy-complements of Warner’s one stop; a gift for each parent; a cash prize for each school.

The competition was keen and saw a number of tie breakers being used to separate the teams.

The final placements were as follows

CPS-winners—The France/Budgeon family-Mauricia and Rudelicia-50 points. Included in their winnings were a tablet and a weekend stay at Mount Nevis Hotel

2nd place-JLPS-The Challenger family-Charming and Keniyo. Included in their winnings were a weekend stay at Oualie Beach hotel.

3rd place-IWPS-The Hanley family-Colette and N’Kosannae. Included in their winnings is a stay at a local hotel.
