Cricket : Adelvin Phillip’s Heroics Not Enough To Save Nevis—Montserrat Wins

Montserrat Celebrates Victory

Former Nevis captain, Adelvin Phillip, walked to the crease at the ET Willet Park, on Tuesday 21st February, with his Nevis team behind the 8 ball and struggling badly in chase of an improbable 254 runs victory target.

Adelvin Phillip’s resistance ends

Some spectators turned off in disgust, as Phillip, nursing a finger, broken in two places, strode to the wicket with his team precariously placed on 76 for 5.

It was obvious that Phillip was living up to his country’s motto of ‘COUNTRY ABOVE SELF,’ as he noticeably showed pain sometimes when the bat made contact with the ball, but he batted on.

He joined Carlon Bowen Tuckett in an exciting partnership of 78 runs before Tuckett played one back into the safe hands of Deno Baker.

Jaden Carmichael then shared in another enterprising stand with Phillip of 49, but he went for a big heave and holed out at long-on.

The end came swiftly thereafter, with Phillip deciding to throw caution to the wind and was stumped.

Earlier in the day, the Montserrat innings folded at 152 and then their fast bowlers went to work on the Nevis batsmen, with Saeed Williams getting struck in the process and the verbal heat with exchanges from both teams, eventually getting out of hand and the umpires had to intervene
