Cricket and Health Walk Makes Active Week for Police Sports Club

Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 02, 2016 (RSCNPF): The newly appointed executive committee of the Police Sports Club were busy planning events over the last few days. On Thursday evening (March 31) the sports club cricket team took the grounds of Warner Park in a friendly Twenty-Twenty cricket match against a team from the Bardsey Sports and Social Club visiting from Leeds, England.

Bardsey batted first and scored 124 all out in nineteen overs. The Police team then took the wicket and was off to a good start with opening batsmen Constable Labourde and Mr. Sherman White putting 42 runs on the board prior to the rains that ended the game.

On Saturday morning (April 2), over 100 persons comprising of Police Officers, Prison Officers, Fire Officers, civilian employees, family members and the general public participated in the club’s first monthly Health and Fitness Walk.

At 5.00am the group departed the Police Training Centre for what was challenging course. The designated route was from the centre to the second roundabout in Frigate Bay, turning right and taking the road towards Bird Rock and ending at the training center. All participants returned safely.

Commissioner Ian Queeley in addressing the group after the walk thanked the executive body of the Police Sports Club for their execution of the event, “I want to thank Police Constable Watt and his team for the outstanding job in arranging this event, and look forward to the other events you have planned.” He added, “with this renewed spirit within the sports club, we can see the return of Police week on the Horizon”, and that was met with a resounding applause from the officers.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Mr. Osmond Petty, was also on hand and commended the Sports Club Executive. Mr. Petty said “I applaud your initiative with the health walk, it serves two purposes, first, the health and wellness benefits cannot be overlooked, and two, events such as these helps to build camaraderie within the ranks”. He echoed he looks forward to the next walk, and jokingly stated, “I had concerns about the hills.”

The Police Sports Club monthly Health and Fitness Walk will be a fixture on the Police calendar and the general public is invited to attend.
