Cricket Carlon Bowen Tuckett- ‘I Want to Be A Wicketkeeper-Just Like My Godfather’ (Ridley Jacobs)

Mrs. Sonya Bowen Tuckett is over the moon and beaming with joy, having learned of the selection of her son, 17-year-old Carlon Bowen Tuckett’s selection to the Windies under 19 touring party to the UK.

Mrs. Tuckett noted that he showed a natural inclination towards the game of cricket, as early as 18 months old.

Carlon Bowen Tuckett-the wicketkeeper

At age two, he was video recorded bowling to his more illustrious Dad, Carl Tuckett (former Windies player and current umpire) and actually bowling the ball in the approved manner.

As a natural athlete, he excelled in athletics and Football as well, but according to his mom, one day he told her that Football was a hobby and he competed in athletics because they wanted him to, but that Cricket was his real love.

Eventually, due to health reasons, the other two sports were dropped and he focused strictly on Cricket.

He showed early potential as a good batsman and left-arm leg-spin bowler, but one day he just blurted out to his mom that he wanted to be a wicketkeeper like his Godfather, Ridley Jacobs.

His late grandfather searched all of Bridgetown before he could find a pair of wicket-keeping pads, small enough to fit him and a proud Carlon slept in those pads, that first night.

He has now blossomed into one of the finest young wicketkeepers in the region.

His wicket-keeping efforts in the recent under 19 trials, were excellent and although he did not score as heavily as he would have liked, his last two innings were 21 not out and 45.

The under 19’s are currently on tour to the UK, where they will play 6 one day matches, versus England’s young guns and on return to the West Indies will rejoin the others, left out from the original 26 man squad for another camp session, before the final team is selected for the under 19 world cup 2022, which will be held in the West Indies.

She gives thanks to God, his Dad (her husband) Carl and the many coaches who have helped him on his journey so far.
