As the Women’s T20 Blaze, hosted by Cricket West Indies, continues, the Leeward Islands women have been making waves with a series of impressive performances.
The Leewards have won all three of their matches so far and are shaping up as the team to beat in this year’s tournament.
In their opening match, the Leewards posted 108 for 5 and then restricted Jamaica to 99 for 8. Shawnisha Hector starred with an outstanding all-round performance, scoring a half-century and taking two wickets, while Davronique Maynard also claimed two wickets.
In their second outing, the Leewards got the better of defending champions Guyana. Batting first, they scored 106 for 9 before bowling Guyana out for 99. Reniece Boyce led the batting with a fine 51, supported by skipper Amanda Edwards with 31. Edwards also shone with the ball, taking three wickets, while Davronique Maynard and Qiana Joseph picked up two wickets each.
The Leewards continued their dominant run in their third match with a convincing win over Trinidad and Tobago. T&T were restricted to 74 for 9, before the Leewards reached 75 for 6 in 16 overs. Davronique Maynard and Amanda Edwards both claimed two wickets, while Reniece Boyce top-scored with 28 and Edwards added 27.
Today, Monday, January 19, the stage is set for the most anticipated match of the tournament, as the unbeaten Leeward Islands women take on the only other undefeated team, Barbados, in a highly anticipated clash scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
