Cricket : Leewards Women Start Regional 50-Over Campaign on Losing Note

The Regional Women’s 50-Over Tournament bowled off on Tuesday, January 27, in St. Vincent, with reigning T20 Blaze champions, the Leeward Islands women, opening their campaign against Barbados.

Batting first, Barbados were dismissed for 144, with Cumberbatch leading the way with an unbeaten 74. The Leewards’ bowlers put in a spirited effort, spearheaded by Shawnisha Hector, who claimed an impressive 4 wickets for 19 runs, while Davronique Maynard provided solid support with 3 for 22.

However, the Leewards struggled in reply and were bundled out for 65. Tonya Martin was the top scorer with 15, as the batting line-up failed to gain momentum. Barbados’ bowling attack proved decisive, with Connell grabbing 4 wickets for 17 runs and captain Alleyne delivering a devastating spell of 3 for 3.

Barbados ultimately secured a commanding 79-run victory, handing the Leewards a tough start to their Regional 50-Over campaign.
