Cricket Official Thanks NIA For Continued Assistance

Cricket chief on Nevis, Denrick Liburd, took time out to thank the Nevis Island Administration and more specifically Minister of Sports, Hon. Eric Evelyn and the Sports Department, headed by Mr. Jamir Claxton, for the continued financial assistance rendered to the Nevis Cricket Association.

He was speaking on Monday 17th September, in an interview with NTV Sports, shortly after the Nevis team left for Montserrat, via boat, to participate in the 2018 edition of the Leeward Islands 50 overs tournament, which will be played in Montserrat, starting today-Tuesday 18th September.

Liburd noted that just like the individual territories, the Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA), is undergoing severe financial difficulties and in hosting the upcoming tournament, the territories had to assist by covering the major expenses of sending their respective teams to participate in the tournament. The Nevis Island Administration came through, as per usual, for the team.

The fact that all of the matches are being played on one island, is also a cost cutting measure.

He stated that he was pleased with the preparations of the Nevis team, even though there were some unscheduled breaks, including the passage of Tropical storm Isaac, which actually forced the tournament to be postponed, but he is confident that the Nevis team, as joint champions from last year, will give a good account of itself and will actually return as solo champions, this time around.

He listed the team as follows: Javani Tyson; Kian Pemberton; Jason Campbell; Saheed Williams; Nelson Boland (vice-captain); Ross Powell; Duan Webbe; Tonito Willet; Adelvin Phillip (captain); Marcus Dubberry; Kezron Archibald; Joseph Williams; N’Cosie George and Jamie Cornelius.

The Manager is Errol Somersall; the coach is Gerard TRINI Charles and for the first time ever, the team is taking along a qualified Physiotherapist, in Josephine France. The scorer is Sharlene Martin.

Liburd indicated that the team will be required to play matches on a regular basis and the Physio would certainly be required. He is hoping that this will be a feature for any travelling Nevis team in the future.
