Cricket : Rare Carnage at the ETW

Nevis v Antigua

It was literal carnage at the ET Willet Park on Monday 27th February, as Antigua and Barbuda engaged Nevis in the Leeward Islands three-day tournament fixture.

The Antigua and Barbuda team won the toss and elected to bat first.

Nevis made a few changes to their previous match lineup.

Captain Kieran Powell is back to lead the team, while stand-in captain Colin Archibald, is taking a rest. Also in, are fast bowling debutant Kimarni Nisbett and Jamie Cornelius, with Saeed Williams, asked to sit out this one.

Thereafter, there was virtual carnage, as the batsmen scored at a rapid clip, going at a regular rate of almost 5 runs per over for the entire day.

Karima Gore struck an impressive century and there were also classy knocks from Scott, James and Benta, who all got half-centuries.

At one point, the Nevisian bowlers seemed only to be hoping for the batsmen to make a mistake, as boundaries came at regular intervals.

The bad news for the Nevis team is that with all of the big-hitting that has already been done, the King of big hitting is new at the crease, the man, Rahkeem JIMBO Cornwall.

Once the visitors continue to bat today, it is expected that Cornwall too would want to join the six-hitting party.
Summarized scores: Antigua & Barbuda 475 for 6 in 96 overs: Karima Gore 175; Kenrick Scott 84; Kofi James 74; Deran Benta 57
Jaden Carmichael 2 for 80; Kimarni Nisbett, Ross Powell and Onaje Amory 1 wicket each
